It has recently come to my attention (read: J has called me out on it) that I have purchased 17 books in the last two months, none of which have been read.
I would like to say that it has been due to the fact that we have been hella busy at work with 4 teams already reaching play-offs or that the kids have been taking up all my time…..but the truth is….
has dominated most of my allotted reading time. And by allotted reading time, I mean the 12 minutes of alone time that one can only partake in while using the ::ahem:: facilities.
Not to mention that carrying
312 a few fics in PDF form on your cell phone is just WAY easier than lugging around books. But I have heard my book shelves lamenting the absence of my what used to be daily fondling. They miss me– as do I them. And I also miss actually holding a book. And turning the pages. And placing a book mark in just so in the crease….phew….is it getting hot in here? My book boner is hardening with all this talk.
So, in order to alleviate both my mine and my shelves book blue balls, I am making a pledge to read at least two actual books during the month of December. I will be getting 2 weeks off from work here shortly, so I figure this is doable.
Now, the question is which two? Well, [NERD ALERT] I went ahead and assigned the last 17 books I bought a random number and then put them into the random.org generator. Here’s what it spit out:
#16 and #11
which turned out to be these two books:
I feel like I need some sort of accountability assignment for this– like a book report on each when I am done, no? Maybe I can do a post on them just to prove that I did in fact step away from the FanFic. But the fics are….. just….so…….tempting. Like that
8th 3rd donut that you snatch from the work break room even though you KNOW you don’t need it. It’s just there. All sweet and tempting but also not fulfilling. You know you don’t need to eat it but you do. And then feel guilty afterwards.
::sigh:: it’s a sick cycle I tell you….
What do you think? Do you think I can put down the fics?
What good books are you reading right now?
